European Maritime Day 2010
As a part of the union project Seaside, which main goal is a promotion of the Southern Baltic region, Polish partners The Central Maritime Museum and the city Gdańsk on 19th and 20th May 2010 organized a two-day celebration of the European Maritime Day 2010.
The main purpose of the European Maritime Day is confirmation of ecological and economic importance of seas and oceans for inhabitants of the European Union. The celebration of this holiday is a great occasion to show the seaside communities how important role seas and oceans are playing in their everyday life.
An international seminar held on 19 May and devoted to maritime heritage in general and historical vessels still in operation in particular, was an event opening the two-day celebrations of the European Maritime Day at the Central Maritime Museum in Gdańsk.
During the session, problems were discussed of protection and conservation of ships and warships of great historical and museum value, like the Cutty Sark in Britain or the Dar Pomorza in Poland, as well as those still in service and trying to cope with every-day problems, e.g. the Antica in Gdańsk.
On 20 May a colourful, open-air FESTYN MORSKI event was held, the special guest of which was the Polish sailor Mateusz Kusznierewicz – holding the title of the Ambassador for Maritime Affairs of the City of Gdańsk.
We can proudly announce that Teja Tur organized the whole seminar part of the event.
